Long before the Watergate scandal or the impending constitutional crises of today, a young America waited with bated breath as Vice resident John Tyler was thrusted into the presidency following President William Henry Harrison’s death.

While the presidential order of succession is a concept we fully understand today, such was not the case before Harrison’s death.
